Monmouth.. Do appoint the Common Gaol fo rthis County to be built in the
former place of Middletown, where the ancient Prison formerly stood, which
... is to built... [22 feet square, 2 stories high, each story 7' high,
the lower story to be built] ... with lime and stone underground, the
upper story above ground to be built with Timber, the posts to be six
inches square and to stand within four inches one of the other, to be
covered on the outside with inch boards, the under floor to be laid with
plank two inches thick upon good sleepers within eighteen inches each of
the other... the lower story to have one window in each room with
substantial Doors, locks and Bars fior for the securing of malefactors.
The second floor to be laid with Beams of ...six and eight inch square
within six inches one of the other and the third floor in like manner..
the said house to be covered with cedar or chestnut shingles, square edged
and that there be a good brick chimney built at one end with a fireplace
in each Room ... and do nominate James Bollen, William Lawrence, Junior
and Amos White to be Assessors and Joseph Cox of Middletown Collector ...
And do also appoint Richard Stout, Moses Lip'ct, Hugh Hartshorne, all of
Middletown to be ye Managers to build the said prison-house...

Wife Amy A. Chatham two good feather beds, bedsteads and bedding, two
bureaus, three of the best tables, one dozen of the best chairs, one
stove and all such other furniture as she may consider necessary for
furnishing and keeping house and all to be of her own choice of such
as I may be possessed at the time of my decease.
All remainder of personal property Executor to sell at public
vendue as soon as convenient after my decease, money arising from the
sales thereof to the payment of my just debts. If not sufficient to
satisfy the depths, Executor to sell house and lot I purchased of
Charles Mitchel where he now resides. If that still isn't enough
Executor to sell the lot I purchased of Enoch Aggings together with
the new house I am building thereon. All the remainder of my estate
to my loving wife Amy A. Chatham the balance of the personal estate
if any and the real estate to her for and during her natural life.
At her death as hereinafter directed.
To son Joseph A. Chatham all that house and lot messuage and
tenement where I now live at Mullica Hill containing three acres of
land more or less to him and his heirs forever subject nontheless to
the life estate therein of his mother, my said wife.
Also subject to the payment or charge of $600.00 for the use of
my daughter Emily Doran (wife of Thomas Doran) to be disposed of as
follows. After the death of my wife my son Joseph A. Chatham shall
annually pay to my said daughter Emily the interest of the aforesaid
sum of $600.00 is to go to her children, to be equally divided
amongst them share and share alike.
Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Emily Doran $600.00 to
have and receive the interest thereof only to be paid to her by my
son Joseph in the manner herein directed and after herr decease the
said $600.00 I devise to all the children of her said Emily Doran to
be equally divided amongst them.

Emily a total of $1200 or merely repeating the general wording a

To son Benjamin F. Chatham house and lot situated at Mullica Hill
containing about one-third of an acre +/- which is now in the
occupancy of Mary Haines to him and his heirs subject only to the
life estate therein of his mother as herein before mentioned.

of John Allen and Azuba Read.

Isaac Reed, Sr. Alenah Allen is named as such in the will of her
grandfather, Isaac Read, Sr. of Knowlton Township, Warren County, New
Jersey (died 1838). Alenah was called Lanah Marye Allen in Isaac's will.
She was a minor in 1838. As Azuba Read Allen died in 1823, this would
palce her birth between 1817 and 1823. I have a marrriage of Alenah to
Epentus Everitt in Warren County on 5 October 1839.
Two children appear on the 1850 census: John C.A. Everitt (born c. 1846)
and Margaret Maria Everitt (born c. 1849).
I assume there were probably other children.
Epentus and Alenah are buried in Swayze Cemetery in Hope Township, Warren
County, New Jersey.
Epentus Everitt 18 May 1818 through 17 February 1893.
Alenah Everitt, died 5 December 1876, aged 55 years, 10 months and 9 days.
