   n. GJB analysis - John in the 1860 Census is Wm & Susan's son.
   n. It's amazing what a little rechecking can do. I stopped at Mt. Pleasant
Cemetery in Millville, NJ, tonight to say hello to a few ancestors. I
hopped out of the car and checked out the cedar tree marking the plot of
William M. Doughty. Somehow, I had missed something before. William M.
      had a second wife.
Along with the stone that verifies William M. and son Richard B's data,
there were two more stones back-to-back in the 6-person plot. One says,
      "George Y. Keen/...eb 10, 1854?/Died Oct __ 1897." Behind the cedar tree
      at Richard's grave was, "Susan/wife of/W. M. Doughty/Born May 17,
      1815/Died Feb. 12, 1849."
Notice that the eldest son of Hannah Doughty was William, born about
1852. Since Susan died in 1849 and Hannah shows as the wife of William
      M. in the 1850 census, the time of the second marriage is pretty well
narrowed down. Most important is that Susan's grave being in Millville
before William M. appears in Burlington County reinforces the notion
that William M. was a son of Isaiah Doughty of Millville.
And now we have a clue as to the origin of the John Doughty, bc1846,
who pops up out of age order at the bottom of the list of children of
William and Hannah in the 1860 census. I would bet that he was the son
of William M. and Susan Doughty, so a half-brother to the rest of the
      listed children. bingham@jnlk.com 2000 Jan 11 00:24
